Meet the Captains

Capt Mike Gerlach

Captain Mike Gerlach Jr is the owner of Kraken Down Charters. Raised in Melbourne Beach, FL, he has devoted his life to fishing the inland and offshore waters surrounding the Sebastian Inlet. At a young age, he spent his days in the flats of the Indian River Lagoon and Sebastian Inlet until he was old enough to venture offshore and develop his passion for trolling and bottom fishing. Mike is a US Coast Guard licensed and insured captain who strives to put his clients on trophy fish.

Mike graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2008 with a degree in Ocean Engineering. When Mike’s not fishing, you’ll most likely find him on a surfboard or diving off the beach for spiny lobster. There’s always something to do on the water when you grow up on the Space Coast.

Capt Gregg Hayda

Captain Gregg Hayda II spent his childhood fishing the inshore waters of Palm Bay, FL. It wasn’t long before the beauty and vast diversity of Sebastian Inlet’s fishery quickly consumed all of his free time and gas money. After spending countless hours in the Indian River Lagoon, Sebastian Inlet and Atlantic Ocean, Capt. Gregg decided to turn his obsession for the outdoors into a full time career. Capt. Gregg is a US Coast Guard licensed and insured captain and is a long time friend and fishing partner of Capt Mike’s.
